Songs for Souls Fundraising Concert (and Bake Sale)
Wow… it feels like it’s been a while since I posted anything up here. Why is that? Right, because it has been! I’ve been so busy with work and my master’s studies that I sure haven’t done a lot of music making. Well, actually that’s not quite correct. I’ve been leading worship music at my church, New Beginnings Lutheran, at least twice a month, and I’m loving that. So, music is being made, just in a more focused context than it has been in the past.
What’s really cool is that, coming up on Sunday, December 3, I’m going to be performing at a fundraising event being held at my church! Our whole church family is so excited about Songs for Souls – it’s a fundraising concert and bake sale to raise money for Souls Harbour Rescue Mission here in Regina. We have been involved with them for many years (long before I began attending the congregation) and this fundraiser funds an entire year of the monthly meals that our church team prepares and serves at Souls Harbour. After not hosting this event last year, it’s back this year, with a fresh new format but all the same heart!
This year, we have four wonderful musical acts sharing Christmas favourites. First off, we’ll hear from Phoenix, one of the two worship teams at New Beginnings. Next, Pastor Lucas Albrecht from Mount Olive Lutheran Church, along with his lovely wife, Djenane, will be performing. The Albrecht family moved here from Brazil less than a year ago, and they will even be singing for us in Portuguese! That is so cool. Next up is my friend and fantastic Saskatchewan country musician Chris Henderson. I don’t know that there has ever been a cowboy hat up front at Songs for Souls, but I bet there will be this year! And to finish up the evening, myself along with dear friends Phil, Denise, and Lindsay will be singing. I am so excited about the group of talented musicians we have gathered this year, and I can’t wait for you to see the show!
OH – and I would be remiss if I didn’t stress how FANTASTIC this bake sale is going to be. The folks of our church bake up a storm every year, and the smarties who help organize the bake sale take all the baking and split it up into assorted platters! That way, you won’t have to choose between sugar cookies, macaroons, and gingerbread, because you can have all three and many more on the same tray! I just think that’s brilliant. Oh, look for the lime macaroons and the cream cheese peppermint buttons. If you like them, I made them! If you don’t like them… well, at least I sing pretty. 😀
So. Baking. Music. Supporting a great cause. 6:30 p.m. for the bake sale, and show starts at 7:00. See you there!
